Yorkshire and The Humber is one of the regions
of England. It is one of the three regions (along with North
East England, and North West England), that is expected to
have a referendum later in 2004 about the establishment of an elected regional assembly.
It is divided into the following local
government areas:
It was originally called Yorkshire and Humberside, and defined as North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and Humberside. Since then, Humberside has been split up, and the councils of West and South Yorkshire abolished,
and York has seceded from North Yorkshire. The older form of the name is still occasionally seen.
