Yevgeny Aleksandrovich Kafelnikov (Russian Евгений
Александрович
Кафельников) (yehv-GEH-nee ka-FELL-nee-koff) (born February 18, 1974), former number one tennis player from Russia. He was born in Sochi, Soviet Union (now
Russia).
Kafelnikov won the Australian Open (1999) and French Open (1996) grand slam tournaments, and Sydney Olympics (2000). He also won doubles at the French Open in 1996, a rare achievement in this tournament.
He achieved the number one singles ATP ranking on May 3, 1999, but lost seven straight matches thereafter. He reached the final of the Australian Open in 2000, losing to Andre Agassi
in four sets.
