in the U.S. State of Alaska. As of
2000, the population is 6,684. There is no borough seat.
Geography
The census area has a total area of 23,365 km˛ (9,021 mi˛). 15,112 km˛ (5,835 mi˛) of it is land and 8,252 km˛ (3,186 mi˛) of it is water.

and 1,764 families residing in the census area. The population

census area is 73.04% White, 0.22% Black or African American, 16.07% Native
American, 1.62% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 7.81% from two or more races. 1.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,587 households out of which 36.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.30% are married couples
living together, 9.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.80% are non-families. 26.30% of all households
are made up of individuals and 7.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is
2.56 and the average family size is 3.11.
