West Los Angeles is defined as the portion of Los Angeles, California that lies east of the Pacific Ocean, west of Fairfax Avenue south of the
Santa Monica Mountains and north of Los Angeles International Airport. It
includes the communities of Westwood, Mar Vista, Palms, Brentwood, Culver City, Bel-Air, West Hollywood, Century City, Rancho Park, Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills, Cheviot Hills, Beverlywood, Venice, Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey, Sawtelle, Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Santa Monica and
the canyons. To locals, there is a nuance to the term, in which "West L.A." is used to describe all the parts of the area that
aren't particularly defined, as well as some of the lesser known neighborhoods. The 310
area code covers much of West Los Angeles. Its eastern boundary is La Cienega Boulevard
which runs through West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Beverlywood, Culver City and Ladera Heights.
Some definitions of the "Westside" include those portions of West Hollywood which are east of Fairfax Avenue and the
neighboring community of Hancock Park, which is best known as the site of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the La Brea Tar Pits.
Many of the major touristic, educational, and cultural attractions of Los Angeles are in this area, as is much of the
entertainment industry.
The Los Angeles Westside is associated with having affluent white majority populations in Los Angeles whereas much of the
eastside of Los Angeles has mainly working-class Latino and other minority ethnic groups.
