West Bridgford is a southern suburb of Nottingham,
Years ago there were in Notts two Bridgfords. However with the rise of transport it became necessary to distinguish them so
they were called east and west. Not very accurate really but ok.
Also known as Bread and Lard Island as we are south of the river, so to the general Notts population its an island and as WB
had pretensions to be better with 'posh' houses etc but inside they would eat bread and lard like the rest of the populace.
Home to Notts Forest Football, Trent Bridge Cricket Ground and Holme Pierpont National Water Sports Centre.
As WB expanded in the Victorian and Edwardian period a society called The West Bridgford Protection Society was formed that
worked hard to prevent any licensed premises being opened in WB this has meant that there are a relatively small number of public
houses in the area until recent years.
