United States Code
The United States Code (U.S.C.) is general and permanent federal Law of the United States. Once a Public Law is
enacted, it is incorporated into the U.S. Code.
The Code is divided into titles, which deal with broad subjects; chapters; and sections, which in turn may be divided into
subsections. A sample citation would be 5 U.S.C. 552a, the Privacy Act of 1974.
Title 26 of the U.S. Code is also known as the Internal Revenue Code.
The executive branch's administrative regulations for enforcing the U.S. Code are called the Code of Federal Regulations(CFR).
