The University of Winnipeg received its charter in 1967 but its roots
date back more than 130 years. The founding colleges were Manitoba College (1871), and Wesley College (1888), which merged to form United College in 1938.
Located in the heart of Winnipeg, Manitoba, The University
of Winnipeg provides instruction in the arts, sciences and theology. It is a provincially and privately funded post-secondary
institution with undergraduate and selected graduate programs. The University of Winnipeg is spread over of three city
blocks.
Students at the university are represented by the University of Winnipeg Students' Association.
As of May 2004, politician and former U of W
professor Lloyd Axworthy has been President of the University of
Winnipeg.
