Tom Cruise (born July 3, 1962
in Syracuse, New York), born Thomas Cruise Mapother
IV, is an American film actor who has starred in a number of top-grossing movies and is considered a sex symbol. As a child, his parents moved a lot around the United States and Canada. He once lived in Ottawa, Ontario.
He received Academy Award nominations for Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, both as Best Actor; and for Magnolia, as Best Supporting Actor. He has been married twice, to Mimi Rogers and later Nicole Kidman. He has now
divorced Kidman and is currently involved with Penelope Cruz, the
lead actress in his film
Vanilla Sky.
He is a well-known member of The Church of
Scientology, a fact that has occasionally led to protests at openings of his movies in Europe.
