SNK is a Japanese video
game company. SNK stands for "Shin Nihon Kikaku," translated to "New Japan Project."
It was started in late 1970s and lasted until its collapse in 2000 due to under-finance. Since then their games have been under the control of another Japanese company,
Playmore. It is important to note that SNK has been 'resurrected' since it's
demise, employing much of the same staff of 2000 under the name 'SNK Playmore Corporation'. However, their talented sound and
graphics teams have left, many of which are employed currently by Capcom, resulting in a drastic decline in the quality of their
games.
SNK is known for being the manufacturer of the Neo-Geo video game console and arcade system, which they have been developing for since the
early 1990s. The majority of their popular games were released for the Neo-Geo, and some were later ported over to other more
popular systems. SNK also had a few variations of the Neo-Geo, such as the Neo
Geo Gold, the Neo Geo CD, the Neo Geo CDZ, and the Neo-Geo 64. They also made two handheld systems, the Neo
Geo Pocket and the Neo Geo Pocket Color.
