In Greek mythology, Pothos was the
personification of desire. He was a son of Cronus and Aphrodite.
Pothos, also known as Taro Vine and Silver Vine is the common name
(formerly the genus) of a popular houseplant (Epipremnum pinnatum) with heart-shaped leaves and decorative spotting in white, yellow, or
light green. Pothos is a climbing vine (liana) of considerable size in its native habitat (South-East Asia) (or where naturalized
in tropical forests). It is in the flowering plant Family Araceae.
The plant is a very common house
plant and is often used in decorative displays in shopping
centres, offices, and other public locations largely because it is a very hardy
plant that requires little care and is also attractively leafy.
For best results it requires a bright to partly shaded location, and a temperature of at least 16 degrees celsius. Generally it only needs water when it begins to feel dry to the touch. For best
results a fertilizer
stick can be added in spring, and should be repotted every couple of years.
However, this is a robust plant that can stand a fair degree of abuse. It can grow up to 5 metres in length.
