In Greek Mythology, an Oceanid was a nymph who
was the daughter of Oceanus; i. e., nymph presiding over the ocean.
More broadly, the Oceanids, in Greek and Roman mythology, were the
three thousand sons and daughters of Oceanus and Tethys. Each one was the patron of a particular spring, river, lake or pond. Each body of water had an
Oceanid assigned to it.
