A misnomer is an incorrect or misleading name for a thing. They are often idiomatic.
Examples:
- the "morning sickness" associated with the onset of pregnancy is a misnomer;
illness can occur at any time, and its "morning" association is anecdotal.
- comic books, are illustrated stories, not necessarily comedies.
- dry cleaning often uses fluid, making clothes wet
- the "lead" in a pencil is made of graphite and clay
