Matthew Broderick (born March 21, 1962) is an American film and stage actor who is perhaps best known for his earlier screen roles, playing the main characters in WarGames and Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Other famous film roles include those of Robert Gould Shaw in Glory and the voice of the adult Simba in The
Lion King.
He was born in New York City. The son of actor James Broderick, he appeared on
Broadway when barely out of his teens in the Neil Simon play Brighton Beach
Memoirs, and also in Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song Trilogy; Broderick would later appear in the film
version of the latter, in a different role. He returned to Broadway as a musical
star in the 1990s, most notably in Mel Brooks' stage version of The Producers in 2001, and continues to make films.
He has won two Tony Awards, in 1983 for his featured role in the play
Brighton Beach Memoirs, and in 1995 for his leading role in the musical How to Succeed
in Business Without Really Trying!; he was also nominated for The Producers, with the award going to co-star Nathan
Lane.
He has been married to actress Sarah Jessica Parker
since 1997. The couple has one child.
