Marram grass

Marram grass is a genus of perennial grass, used to prevent or stop erosion of dunes. It is a sand-binder and dune-builder, with an extensive root system and a coarse, stiff structure.

There are two species of Marram grass, and one hybrid:

  • North American Marram grass Ammophila breviligulata
  • European Marram grass Ammophila arenaria
    • Hybrid Marram grass X Ammocalamagrostis baltica - a hybrid between Ammophila arenaria and Calamagrostis epigeios.
