New Zealand's national
park system is administered by the Department of Conservation.
New Zealand has fourteen National Parks:
- Abel Tasman National Park, northern South
Island, 225 kmē, established in 1942.
- Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park,
Southern Alps, 707 kmē.
- Arthurs Pass National Park, Southern Alps,
1,145 kmē.
- Egmont National Park, western North Island, 335 kmē,
reserve established in 1881, national park in 1900. Part of Wanganui Conservancy.
- Fiordland National Park, southwest South Island,
12,570 kmē, established in 1952.
- Kahurangi National Park, northwest South Island,
4,515 kmē, established in 1996.
- Mount Aspiring National Park, southern
Southern Alps, 3,555 kmē.
- Nelson Lakes National Park, northern
Southern Alps, 1,020 kmē.
- Paparoa National Park, northern west coast of South
Island 300 kmē, established in 1987.
- Rakiura National Park, Stewart Island, 1,500 kmē,
established in 2002.
- Te Urewera National Park, eastern North Island,
2,127 kmē.
- Tongariro National Park, central North Island,
787 kmē, established in 1887.
- Westland/Tai Poutini National Park central west coast of South Island, 1,175 kmē.
- Whanganui
National Park, western North Island, 742 kmē. Part of Wanganui Conservancy.
