Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810) was
a Major General of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was seriously wounded at
the Battle of Saratoga, but returned to duty in August of
1778. He was captured at Charleston, South Carolina, but later exchanged. As Washington's second in command, he formally accepted the British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown (1781).
