Air-to-air missile


An air-to-air missile (AAM) is a (usually guided) missile fired from an aircraft for the purpose of destroying another aircraft.

  • X-4 missile - WW2 design, MCLOS, never saw service

International:

  • MBDA MICA - used on Rafale.
  • MBDA Meteor - long range, active radar; design to replace AMRAAM
  • IRIS-T - medium range IR; replacement for Sidewinder

Israel:

  • Rafael Python 3 -
  • Rafael Python 4 - medium range IR
  • Rafael Python 5 - medium range IR; improves on Python 4
